Friends,
SVF’s Emergency Fund has been distributing funds for emergency needs related to Arab society and protecting shared society since October 7. Our purpose in operating this fund is to meet emergency needs within Arab society, which are underserved by the government and philanthropy, and to prevent incitement during this emergency period.
We once again need your support.
The recent Israel-Iran War triggered increased demand for funding support in crucial areas such as safety and sheltering, provision of essential emergency equipment, and mobilization of volunteers to help in all aspects of civic need. While the immediate crisis between Israel and Iran has abated, it is crucially important to ensure that:
- Arab communities are sufficiently equipped with emergency preparedness capacities, and that Arab communities have the resilience to manage emergency situations.
- Relations between Jews and Arabs are based on mutual respect and partnership.
- Arab society, and shared cities and regions will benefit from the emerging government and philanthropic opportunities for recovery.
Our areas of focus:
1: Strengthen Arab Community Resilience. SVF will invest in the development of civil society and municipal community resilience capacities in Arab communities, including Arab communities within shared cities, to be prepared for, adapt to and recover from emergencies more quickly.
2: Prevention of incitement and inter-communal violence in Israel. The ongoing war has raised fear and distrust between Arab and Jewish citizens. There is a crucial need to strengthen trust, and rebuild economic and social relations, especially in areas impacted by the war,
3: Services to support Israeli communities outside the traditional social service and crisis safety net. During periods of war, SVF aims to support Arab communities, especially those that lack a robust social service and crisis response infrastructure. These communities need emergency equipment and supplies, as well as support to mobilize volunteers and community frameworks to meet immediate needs.
4: Supporting Economic Recovery. The government and philanthropy are beginning to actively plan for recovery and rehabilitation of communities hard-hit by the war. Arab communities and mixed cities/regions must be included in these plans for economic and social recovery.
SVF will continue to be at the forefront of supporting shared society and equality work in Israel. Today, however, we must do what we can to support Arab and Bedouin communities that are outside of the mainstream crisis safety net.
Please pledge or give now to this important campaign in addition to your regular annual SVF contribution.
